BIRMINGHAM WORLD CUP BID 2011

Postby Steve1977 » Sun Mar 13, 2011 8:39 pm

PROPOSED DATE: 11/12/13 November 2011
PROPOSED LOCATION: Birmingham City Centre

On behalf of the the three lions, I'd like to outline Birmingham's bid to host the 2011 KOA World Cup. Aware of the current economic climate, we've been cost-conscious when viewing and negotiating venues and accommodation prices.

LOCATION, VENUE & TIME
Birmingham is a lively, cosmopolitan city in the heart of England and offers a wide range of pubs, clubs, restaurants, shopping centres, museums and art galleries. We've shortlisted three possible venues smack bang in the centre of the city to ensure that no matter your interest, everything will be a short walk away.
Venue will have full Wi-Fi capability and also be open till late on all days (Friday, Saturday and Sunday)

COSTS
We estimate that venue and trophy costs will equate to £40 per player (Based on 45 players). KOA hotel accommodation costs range from £70-£90 per double/twin room including breakfast. In addition to the KOA hotel we have also identified cheaper, alternative accommodation from £42 per double room or a plethora of B&B’s from £17 per night (on the same road too so no getting lost).
Taxi's will cost £25 upto 4 passengers (£6.25 each) and will be pre-booked. (as opposed to £50 for a black cab)

FLIGHTS
Birmingham International Airport (BHX) is 6 miles from the city centre, and transfers are available by train, bus or taxi (we've found a firm specialising in airport runs with preferential rates). The following airlines fly from the airport itself:

* Aer Arann
* Aer Lingus
* Air France
* Air Malta
* Balkan Holidays
* bmibaby
* bmi regional
* Brussels Airlines

* City Airline
* Continental Airlines
* Cyprus Airways
* Eastern Airways
* easyJet
* Emirates
* Eurocypria
* Flybe

* KLM
* Lufthansa
* Mahan Air
* Monarch
* Monarch (Charter)
* Onurair
* Pakistan International
* Pegasus

* Ryanair
* SAS
* Swiss
* Thomas Cook
* Thomson Airways
* Turkish Airlines
* Turkmenistan Airlines
* Viking Airlines

TOURNAMENT FORMAT AND SETTINGS
We respect everybody's preferences and so as with the Athens World Cup we will hold two votes well in advance of the tournament to determine tournament settings (one each for autoslide and unintended slides) – each decided by a simple majority.

Irrespective of the vote outcome, pairs of players who agree are free to deviate from the consensus via the easy to use APT menu. For example, if slides are voted in, two players who agree can still play their match slidefree. Likewise should the vote produce a slidefree outcome, players who agree to play with slides are able to do so. should the vote. With the Vote virtually split down the middle previously, this will ensure maximum flexibility.

In full consultation with former WC hosts and others we would also consider some of the suggestions made after last year's WC concerning the format of Day 2 and the make-up of the gold and silver groups.
All other rules will remain the same (no Wind, No Lineup changes)

CONCLUSION
With the support of the KOA, our bid will provide a World Cup experience that will be second to none. Accessible, affordable and above all, enjoyable.

For our bid to proceed we need to gauge KOA opinion. Please respond to the following three Yes/No questions as soon as possible, and do encourage other players you are in contact with to do the same. Responses are welcome by private message as well as to this thread.

We want an indication of the viability of this bid as soon as possible, and by Friday 18 March at the latest so that venue bookings could be made.

Support the Bid (Yes/No): Do you support the Birmingham bid or not.

Availability (Yes/No): Are you available for the weekend 11/12/13 November? This is not a confirmation but do reply 'Yes' if you have a strong intention to attend.

Respect the Vote (Yes/No)
: We believe and hope most players would respect a vote (if so, reply Yes) but we are aware of one or two players who have to have their preferences upheld by a vote in order to attend (if so reply No). We accept this. For organisational purposes, however, we need to know up front if there are more players that could effectively drop-out. This in no way presumes a vote outcome as history has shown these votes are often too close to call. We simply have to plan for all outcomes.
