I made my own album!

Postby Panayotis7 » Sun Jun 05, 2011 11:52 am

Well, I didn't actually, Kaiser Chiefs did, but I put together the order of the songs (after selecting 10 out of 20) and the (awesome!) cover! Check it out here: http://www.kaiserchiefs.com/Rubicon

and if it turns out that you like it and you buy it, I ever earn a percentage! So you know you should like it and buy it!!

This is very cool Panayotis! When you said you did your own cover i thought it mashed up the songs together and automatically created a erm... mashed up version.
This is going though, gonna do my own now. What other English bands you into? We could all post our favourite playlists from the bands we'r into.

Nooooooooo, you're supposed to buy my album! :P (j/k)

English bands that I'm into? A lot I guess. Well, currently I am going thru a Pulp phase again (this guy is a genius btw). I overall like what is called Brit-Pop - except Oasis. I kinda like Blur, but I consider bands like Suede or the Charlatans to be a lot better. Pulp is #1 though.
But I am mostly into post punk/new wave. The Cure have always been my fav, although their main good era was 79-89. Pornography is still the greatest album in history! Of course, bands like Joy Division, (old) Depeche Mode, the Smiths/Morrissey, Ultravox, Chameleons, Wire (still releasing great stuff) etc are tops too, but I also like several more unknown bands like Deparment S or The Passage. Oh, and Blancmange, who just released a brilliant new album (while good ol' Gang of Four just released a pile of manure).
And I shouldn't forget Radiohead. Although I am not a fanboy, they have released some downright superb albums, like Hail and Kid A (and I really liked King of Limbs this year too).
Speaking of this year, PJ Harvey also released an excellent album, and obviously a very patriotic one!

If I give it a lot of thought I can come up with a pretty huge list mind you!

Wow Pana, you'r certainly into your music mate! I'v only started to get into Blur since they reformed to be honest. I recommend reading Alex James's book "Bit of a Blur" - makes you wish you were there with em! Quite aspirational too in the sense that life can be other things rather than a 9-5 slog.

Out of the bands you mentioned I only really know the typical singles. Pulp? Love em although I only have the one album. You seen their performance at Glastonbury? They were asked to step in as one of the headliners at the last minute and totally ruled. Love the way Jarvis Cocker tells stories in tracks like Underwear, I Spy and the magical feeling of Something Changed.
With the other bands you mentioned, they remind me of a track the Buzzcocks would come out with... love this one:

Well, I have been looking for a way out of the 9-5 life, which I had kinda achieved for 10 years, but I got sucked right back in it. You think Alex's book will not only inspire me but actually tell me how to get back out again? (while making money of course, otherwise it's pretty easy!)

I haven't listened much to Blur. Like I said, kinda like them, but they I never felt the urge to look into them more thoroughly. I especially like their self-titled album though (and no, not because of Song 2!). Pulp on the other hand are among my favorite bands. I presume the album you're talking about is Different Class, but you really should check out other albums too, especially the equally brilliant His & Hers. Never saw them live. They're coming to Athens in August and I'm torn whether I should go or not. They'll be playing at a venue that I hate and have vowed never to go again you see. (btw, I Spy really feels like you're watching a short thriller movie!)

As for the Buzzcocks, I like them too, well parts. Too bad I'm at work now and can't listen to the vid you posted.

Tell me, are you listening to this all on a Panasonic sound system?

By the way, my favourite British band of the moment is Muse - have you checked them out at all?

Nah, it's either Creative Zen MP3 player with Sennheiser phonebuds or PC thru Sony amp and speakers. Panasonic ain't involved at all!

Yeah, I've heard some stuff from them. Showbiz and Origin of Symmetry and I also liked their 09 album, even though I understand Muse fans weren't too happy with it. You got any recommendations from the rest of their discography?
