Good job Bounty Bob!

Postby alkis21 » Fri Apr 27, 2007 5:11 pm

Mark, I just tried your Fixture Manager software and I loved it! I was very surprised to see the Rankings points being calculated automatically, I had no idea it had that feature. I entered some results and tested them in the spreadsheet and they were 100% accurate! Is it the same Rankings.dat file the Analyser has? Do I just have to replace it every month?

We're definitely using this on Sunday. Please keep me informed if you update it, it's hard to keep up with all the KORA threads.

It can be downloaded here. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mbishop/fixtures.zip

Please bear in mind that this is not 100% finished yet, so consider it a beta. There are no instructions or help, but I think most of it is quite straightforward.

Glad you are liking it so far. Did you not see our last few tournament tables and wonder what that last column was for?

It is the exact same rankings.dat file as produced by the analyser, so replacing it each month will do the trick. I'll try and keep the .zip file up to date on my web space so that anyone downloading will have the latest of everything.

Please bear in mind that the ranking points calculated won't actually be 100% exact as it does not consider that you may have, for example 999.5 and not the round 1,000 as listed. Apart from that little point, it is 100% accurate as far as the whole number calculations are concerned. I did my comparisons with the the spreadsheet too. :D

Don't think I've done so yet but wanted to mention the latest version of Bbob's fixture software! 8)

Inputting players can now be done using a pull-down menu. This not only ensures 100% consistency in spelling/layout with the Stats Analyser Database but also it imports the latest ranking points!

Mark's also significantly improved the presentation of the table too!

Recommended for tournament hosts everywhere!! Great work Mr Bbob! :)

If I may suggest some additions/improvements for future versions:

Suggestion 1
I think it would be best if the tournament bonus points (positive for the winner(s), negative for the rest) weren't appointed until all matches have been played. Or better yet, you can have two columns.
Do you know how it works in tournament with more than 8 players? Here's the table:

Winner Runner-Up 3rd Place 4th place 5th Place 6th Place 7th Place 8th Place
1-8 players 100,000%
9-16 players 66,667% 33,333%
17-24 players 57,143% 28,571% 14,286%
25-32 players 53,333% 26,667% 13,333% 6,667%
33-40 players 51,613% 25,806% 12,903% 6,452% 3,226%
41-48 players 50,794% 25,397% 12,698% 6,349% 3,175% 1,587%
49-56 players 50,394% 25,197% 12,598% 6,299% 3,150% 1,575% 0,787%
57-64 players OR MORE 50,196% 25,098% 12,549% 6,275% 3,137% 1,569% 0,784% 0,392%

Suggestion 2
Can you implement an option for the players to be sorted according to goal difference OR in-between results, in case they have the same points?

Bonus could easily be shown at the end of the tournament or in a different column, but I like it how it is. I like seeing how the total change swings through the tournament and the difference it makes.

The bonus should be fully implemented. Not sure what will happen in a league of more than 72 players though, it will probably go a bit mental because I haven't capped the index that references the percantage allocation table. I also didn't cap the tournament importance, so an event of more than 32 players will probably give greater than 100% importance. Very small and easy changes but I just haven't done them at the time. I don't think we'll be having single leagues of more than 32 players anywhere any time soon though. :D

At the moment they are sorted between goal diff, then goals scored. Results between players is on my list to do.

BBob, I know I can easily switch from the fixtures to the table by pressing ESC.

Is there a keyboard short-cut to get back to the fixtures again ?

Right, after suggesting that there might be ages before an update was forthcoming, I have one now!!!

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mbishop/fixtures.zip

There is now a scroll bar to move up and down the fixture list. Thanks to Spyros for planting the seed on that one. :)

The league table now updates in real time as the scores are input. This was how I always wanted it to work but couldn't quite figure out due to the dialog boxes not seeming to receive any keyboard messages, (all keyboard entry in the fixture entry is handled by windows). While fiddling around tonight I discovered an extraordinarilly simple way to get it to work. I think it might be frowned upon in windows programming circles, but it works a treat. :D
