Why-Slide-Tackle-For-The-Ball-When-You've-Already-Got-It Bug

Postby gdh82 » Fri Jan 05, 2007 9:27 am

Thought I'd make this post to try to illustrate what Gianni and I have been banging on about (see below). Personally I don't consider this to be an auto-slide, but a buggy interpretation of a player's attempt to trap the ball whilst an opponent is nearby.

Yellow Defender running back to goal line attempts to trap the ball !?

What do others think?

Torchiador wrote:I can call it "PBD interference" Just around each player on the pitch there is "possession area" in this possession area, each player can control/shoot/stop the ball. Where 2 players with about same speed that are running side by side if PBD player try to stop the ball pressing the fire button he will make an autoslide.

gdh82 wrote:Interesting post, Gianni. I don't use PBD but I believe I come across similar problems. I often find when running shoulder to shoulder with his defender, I'll try to trap the ball so to wrong foot him but unfortunately it often leads to a slide. So I concluded that its extremely difficult (impossible?) to trap the ball when running alongside an opponent.

This has got to be one of the most annoying bugs in the game.

Someone fix it please!!!

Yeah, it's an odd feature, dunno if it is a bug or intentional (Gianni had a solid theory why it could be intentional). After a few years, there's simply some situations where I don't bother anymore and simply kick or run the ball out for a goal kick. It could be argued it's not bad - the defender gets rewarded for being so close to the attacker. And the trap is after all quite powerful - though, actually, thinking about it... as a defender you'd be a fool not to immediately run into the guy who trapped the ball so close to you and most probably come out top. So in the end I venture the guess that it wouldn't make much of a difference anyway if you could trap the ball.

You are really tireless in your efforts Garry, well done.

All these 'features' make KO2 what it is and they affect both players equally. They are annoying but not when they happen to the other player and you profit from it. :)

Myself I am a believer in the 'slippery slope' argument, where it's OK to fix 'bugs' like Corners being taken from the wrong places, but anything that could alter gameplay like changing slide tackles or post/bar detection..... these worry me, as we don't know what sort of game we will end up with when we start messing with such things.

What Rob said ... slippery slopes are bad ... next we'll be banning lobs and blc's because they are goalkeeper 'bugs' .

At the end of the day it's swings and roundabouts ... it might happen to you but it's also just as likely to happen to your opponents ... keep it in!

I'm also pro auto-slide!

It´s no news to most of us what most likely will happen if trying to lock the ball when the opponent is too close, as in this case.

Ko2 has it´s own gravidity-laws, it´s indeed easy to mix these up with what might work in real life.

I wonder where some of us would be in other games if we did not accept bug fixes...

Would we still be playing Guild Wars ? Counterstrike ?
