Compact Flash PCMCIA Adaptor for Amiga

Postby Ely » Tue Nov 07, 2006 12:18 pm

Anyone ever tried one of these;

I figure it's the easiest way of getting Camber's brilliant KO2 updates onto a pukka Floppy without being too expensive.

No need! I bought a SUBWAY that gave my Miggy USB ports, and I can now plug any USB device in it.

Put what's the process for getting an ADF image from you PC to it being on an Amiga Formatted Disk?

Being a non-Amiga person this compact flash thing looks really easy.

If you've got a USB port on your Amiga you can attach any card reader to it. Sounds like a good solution.

This Subway thing seems expensive though (50quid or more) whilst this Compact Flash thingy is like 15quid delivered, comes with a Boot Floppy that allows you to just pick an ADF file from the Flash Card and write to Floppy Drive. Peice of piss for me plus I have a Compact Flash card already.

Sounds good then, might get one.

Except, "PCMCIA to Compact Flash adapter for Amiga 1200 and A600."

and I've got a 500. :(

PCMCIA flash card is a perfect solution to transfer ADF to floppy and viceversa and it's really easy to use.

It's not too bad, I've got Stainy down the road and he does a very similar job to these devices. :D

If I understand this correctly, is it possible to attach a usb-thingy to the amiga, thus making it possible to play Camber-versions without getting the floppies sent from ...Camber... ?

yes, that is correct.

i used to have one working 720K pc formatted disk that i could use to transport the zipped adf-file to my amiga but that disk seems worn out now. so i am also looking for an alternate way of transporting files.

This Compact Flash reader needs either an A1200 or A600 (i.e. it uses the PCMCIA slot on the left of the machine).

Get a Compact Flash Card&Reader for your PC, copy the ADFs onto it. Then stick it in this device and then into the Amiga. Boot the Amiga with the floppy provided. Once booted it gives you the option of either writing an ADF from the Compact Flash Card to a Blank floppy or reading a Flopping and creating an ADF on the Compact Flash Card.

Seems perfect to me, although the Website I was going to order it from has been down all afternoon :(

EDIT:Ah it's working again now, so I've order mine now :)

Bummer. I'd need an a600 or a1200 first then. No shortcuts for us a500+-owners?
