Snap Shot Memories of the 2012 WC

Ok post here your quick and easy memories from this year, longer stories will surely have their own topic when someone starts it.....this is just quick highlights and lowlights.

I think my favourite points where -

* Inventapizza (now get the f*ck out edition) with Jorn on the Saturday night

* My match vs Dino, memorable for the wrong reasons....0-0 until about 2 mins to go and Dino, bless his kind heart, decided to turn and blast the ball past his own keeper from the edge of the box for a 0-1 win to me !

* Drinking Guiness with my mates at 1am in Milan, how fecked up is that!

* The Family Photo with Dagh, Andy, Lorenzo and myself holding our trophies, and the final family member Tommaso holding up a bottle of water

* Steve's roadkill on Sunday evening...meeeeeeeow! Poor Tiddles.

* Giannis comment on entering the showers after the football - Finally for years I have wanted to see the KOA Naked!

On the flip side my lowpoints were all in the Silver Cup knockout matches.

Firstly I somehow beat my friend Jorn. He battered me in first game and then there was a BIG gap before we got to play game 2 as someone stole our Amiga whilst we put the scores in I think had we played straight away Jorn would have won easily, the 40 minute break helped me more than him.

Secondly against Lorenzo. The guy can beat me 99 times from 100, he is a far better player and we have the best matches normally. But It seems the big screen got to him more than me, I knew he was playing a very nervous game, as normally he would be all over my passes, but alas it seems my nerves were slightly less shaky than his during the game and I won somehow....obviously I am happy to win a cup, but wasn't happy that my two friends got unlucky against me

On the flip side my lowpoints were all in the Silver Cup knockout matches.

Firstly I somehow beat my friend Jorn. He battered me in first game and then there was a BIG gap before we got to play game 2 as someone stole our Amiga whilst we put the scores in I think had we played straight away Jorn would have won easily, the 40 minute break helped me more than him.

In a way, all matches are just matches, but I felt the same way about this one. And I felt very little competetive when entering these matches. At the same time I, of course, wanted to win. But there's not another KOA-member I'm more happy to see win the SC-Trophy than my regular Ovaltine-dealer.
About the 40 min-dealy, I'm not sure if it worked in any direction at all, but it did bother me, it did. Kinda lost my groove.

- Meeting Mark in the hotel-bar friday evening, as the first KO-member I meet this WC. Getting a couple of beers before the rest return from tour.

- Meeting D.D. and lending him my spare stick for the entire weekend. Quality chap btw.

- Inventapizza (now get the f*ck out edition) with Mark on the Saturday night.

- Playing footy again, for the first time in 12 years.

- Discussing the joy of kids with Andy. Seriously emotional talk

- The Andy/Dagh Spooning - incident.

- Steves roadkill-dinner on sunday.

- Finally beating Rodolfo!!!

- Meeting the germans (Panni, Thomas, Peter und Wolf) arriving on friday night ("we're just gonna drop our bags off at the hotel, then we go Disco!")

- Gianluca back in action!

- MariaChiaras massive work! God bless her good heart. Gianni, you've found yourselves an angel

I dunno what the rules are, I have never been in a knock out before (the Bronze cup was just a league with top two playing the final in Austria)

I presumed you just switched around and played straight away at the same amiga, I literally got up to get a drink and someone sat down at that same Amiga even tho there were 100 others not being used....

Another Flipside (the worst one, actually):

- The Silver Cup finals end. No one knew it was just a one-legged affair, so when the game was over, it was just polite clapping, and it was announced that the WC-semifinalists should meet up for photo-session. I took 30 - 60 seconds untill it was discovered that it was just the one leg, and Mark got his well deserved appraisal.

- Tomasso's celebration when he was drawn into Lorenzo's group

- Finally beating Rodolfo!!! (which was only possible via a last second free kick, my only WC free kick goal )

- Waiting 'til every game was finished in the 2nd day group phase to have the German - Austrian derby with Frank in the end just to have my left microswitch dying slowly during the 2nd half while Frank's firebutton seemed to work only parttime. Loosing that damn game on overtime

- That picture of Gianluca brewing beer in the Saturday evening restaurant.

- That picture of Jorn on my 660cl big screen games beer.

-When we first met Dino on Friday evening at the hotel, and Panayotis told me that one of us would have to be brave enough to tell him that his fly was open. I stepped up.

-While I was playing Gianni and getting hammered as always, at some point I was on the right side of his penalty box and I tried to cross the ball but my joystick slipped and I did a chip instead. Ektoras then said 'He's starting to play like the Amiga'

-During real football, Alessandro had the ball in midfield and the Germans at the bench urged him to lob

-Announcing Mark Bishop as the Silver Cup winner instead of Mark Williams, blooper of the century

-The entire tournament room standing up and waving at the camera while Cornelius displayed some signs for Robert and Garry to see, awesome idea but I wonder if they actually did?

-At dinner with Gianni on Monday shortly before my flight, we discussed how the KOA helped us improve our English:
Alkis: Half the English I know I learned it from Robert Swift.
Gianni: So, just swears then?

One more: I sat down to play against Jorn, and started applying some gel on my hands so that they're not sweaty while I play.
