Best album ever?

Postby durban » Tue Sep 11, 2012 10:47 pm

So come on can we have sone conversation back in this place please?

A nice discussion about music and the best album of all time. Something with no real bad points, great music, great lyrics, memorable songs and more personal moments?

Contrary to most peoples thinking I would put pearl jam i am not

I would say the most complete and perfect album of all time is August and everything after by the Counting Crows

I thank you for your forthcoming contributions......

Not the most original choice, but Abbey Road by the Beatles is very good.

Blood Sugar Sex Magic by Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Massive album. 70 minutes long, and packed with era-defining hits. And it sounds just as good today, 2o years later. Would've been a hit-album if it was released today.

Completely agree, Abbey Road is perfect. But, as a beatle hardcore fan, I also think that they were also as good in their first albums, somehow underrated. I believe that the true beatles essence is more in "I wanna hold your hand" than in "You never give me your money".

I want to point out another one of my favourites, Elvis Costello first album, "My aim is true". It is amazing! If not the total best, at least the best among debut albums.

Dangerous and History were a little better than Thriller, I think.
But if you want to exclude Michael Jackson's albums (so that this thread becomes interesting), I would say Dr. Dre's The chronic.

Would make it in my TopTen as well.
Also OK Computer from Radiohead. Just like BSM is the Chili's Master Piece I'd say that OK Computer is unmatched by any other Radiohead release.

I remember many of my friends in the 90's was all into Radiohead, but they never got to me. I liked that one song; Creap. :)

My second fave would also be with the Chili's. Californication. MAN was that a comeback-album for John Frusciante.
An album I've spent LOOONG time getting acustomed to, is the one they released inbetween; One Hot Minute. I just didn't like it earlier, because it's so kinda not Chili's, but the more I listen to it, the more I love it. It's hard, it's rocking, and it's soft, wary and funky and beautiful.

The Chili's don't have any particular songs on my Top 10 list, but these 3 albums are just all over solid, and I love having them in my car, for whenever I'm doing a long haul.

Of single songs, I more prefer the likes of Limp Bizkit and bands from the Grunge- and Industrial-era from the late 80's early 90's.

But this is really about a complete album mate, so an album where the majority of songs you love, not just a few that make it a standout album if that makese sense.

So if you think 3 songs are the greatest ever on an Album, but the rest are just ok then overall the album is not a great one..

If you think all 11 songs are killers then get it posted ;)

I just think I can listen to August (and probably the Bends) over and over and enjoy every track (bar maybe one or two) as great songs.

No way!!! It's good, but OKC sounds much better - just compare the sound of the drums on both albums! Songs like 'Black Star' are of heartbreaking beauty though.

I know dude. :) And the Blood Sugar Sex Magik is the absolute best album ever. Totally sweet, complete, rockin' and funky :) As a whole, it's just awesome.

Fair play to both replies :)

I do like the bends tho just my taste. Prefer raw albums rather than somethin perfect i guess and agree with blood sugar as a great classic album...me and mel both have a copy ;)
