For what its worth I find 5-3-2 Is a good attacking formation if you can use it correctly.

You can play crossfield balls from one winger to the other, parrallell with the goal area to split a defence. Beacuse they are so far back in the formation it seem that the wrong defenders pick them up and they are ahead of the defender when they pick up the ball.

This can be used very well for counter attacking play.

Also I cannot believe Martin J Lobs from the halfway line.

I thought that was outlawed in the KOA....no need jeffrey!!!!

5-3-2 on Kick Off 2 for sure!! Stops the lobs. Against a fellow 5-3-2 causes a bit of a stalemate :(

I managed 22-0 v the Amiga using 532 the other night and I can hit around 20 quite regular. I think I know how to use the counter attack very well now as I already have the skill I'm sure. 532 doesn't really stop me from doing the BLC which is obviously my advantage as I can't lob and don't intend to as I find it boring. I'm better off spreading it wide and going for a BLC. I think 532 is actually the best if you can use it right? I'm just not sure at this moment as I won the WC with 424 ffs! I would love to hear Alkis's opinion on this topic.

Martin, how do you manage to always have a defender so close to your keeper in 424 when your under attack? I was watching the video and you always have a defender there as if your using 532 ffs!

I don't really know if I do have such a defender Rikki.

I think it's just the way you played against me becasue I am just as vulnerable at the back as any other 4-2-4 player.

Where is that video anyway? You better not lose it. I want to see that 7-7 draw. How many KO routines did I score in that game mate?

It was an amazing game mate. there were about 2 mistakes each from both of us and the standard showed how good we actually are. You didn't really deserve the draw to be honest as I had quite a bit more posession and you scored 5 lobs you wanker! You hear Trevor in the back going "LOOK!"

Just play what ever you like playing FFS.

I play 4-3-3, yeh its shite at the back but I don't care, its fun.

Just a point about the 4-4-2 defence. You have no sweeper and the 5&6 are quite far up the pitch with a hole between them. However you NEVER have switching problems in the defence and it also means you can pick the player up earlier. Also you can concentrate on using the best two defenders (Simpson and Cox) which is good as SDRWells is weak on Team B.

The main problem I have with 4-4-2 is that it's weak in the centre of the park and there is a gap between the midfield and defence which is easy for a lobber to exploit. Yes, the 10 is very far forward but it's not clear who is the main delivery mechanism as 9 stands close behind him, the wingers stay back and the centre is weak.

I think 4-2-4 is probably the strongest if you know how to use it, but I don't. I can't get over the 9 and 10 standing next to each other when I want to play a long pass from the centre of my own half. You need to take it to one side and then 10 takes up great ready position with 9 getting into the box. But this means you are pissing around dribbling the ball with weak players in your own half to try and set up this pass.

At least with 5-3-2 I know where Barber is all the time and there is no player switching when I send the ball ahead for him to run onto.

I read on this thread frequently that Martin J is a lobber now..

As not a single lob has been scored in a WC final I am back to thinking "What is all the fuss about"...

I am sure Martin J will confirm that his majority of goals are scored inside the box with clinical finishing...
