I am going to propose a 'goal of the tournament' for the World cup. I suggest that we have a camcorder on hand, and 1-2 people assigned to capture these goals.

We can allow people to nominate their ONE best goal of the tournament, and this means they have to press Pause, shout for the camcorder, Replay and record. Each player can only nominate one, so they better make sure it's a good one! Then, we can have a panel of judges (me, Camber, Alkis) who will pick the top ten and show these on Sunday. We can then allow people to place a 1,2,3 (paper ballot) vote for their favourite, whether it's Goal A, Goal B etc. Then we can give a trophy for this. I am sure I can make this work, as long as someone supplies the camera.

Any interest?

There should definitely be a goal of the tournament competition - but it seems a bit harsh just having one nomination each... if you nominate what you think is a great goal, then in the next game you score an absolutely spectacular unbelievable one, you'd be a bit gutted.

How about anyone can nominate any goal not scored by themselves? That would make the selected goals a bit less subjective and lessen everyone nominating just to get on the list. And there would be some kudos in nominating the winning goal. I'd open it up to anyone to nominate, not just the player conceding the goal, because sourgrapes might refuse to recognise your genius - although "he could only beat me by scoring the goal of the tournament" is a pretty convincing excuse to have on standby!

You can still set a maximum number of nominations any one person can make - but I still think 1 is a bit harsh!

I like the 'goal of the tournament' idea, it would make a nice addition.

Good call Robert (goal of the tournament) I also think it is was a good idea to set the limit at one vote each - or matches might get interupted more than neccessary.

goal of the tournament

Some players may not like the interruption. Besides that, is it better calling for someone with the camera than recording in the classic way?

Great idea, Rob. Instead of using the camcorder, I just wondered if SteveC (sorry mate someone's always asking you for something!) could devise some kind of keypress that automatically saves the reply (like a simplified action reply file)? This might be less of an interruption to a game and might provide more contenders for the best goal ?

Let's save that one for Athens/Rome ;)
