Re: UKC 2013

Postby durban » Tue Mar 05, 2013 1:42 pm

After discussions, we may be considering the event taking place in Birmingham.

the UKC has to normally take place in first half of the year, WC is second half...its how we split this up.

If the event does take place in Birmingham I presume we would see better numbers, but it would be Andy and possibly me who need to organise this, and as we aren't local we cannot guarantee how straight forward it will be.

Therefore the sooner we get numbers the sooner we realise if its worth our while putting the effort in.

Kind regards,

Mark

Agreed, Birmingham should be option 1 in order to increase numbers.

As Mark said, we are up for organising this in Birmingham and although it isn't local I think we could manage.

I know that Thorsten has stated interest on FB, so that's good news.

As it stands we now have the following people up for it:

1) Mark
2) Andy
3) Camber
4) SimonB
5) Thorsten

As it's in Birmingham I am hoping the following locals will attend:

1) Steve E
2) Simon K
3) Garry C
4) Jon G

And any other locals, non locals and overseas players?

Anyone heard from Roberto?

All other KOAers please post your interest.

Thanks.

Ok as it stands we are looking at making this a Birmingham (Oldbury) Event - Home of quite a few UKC's over the years.

The Hotel has plenty of rooms available, covering all dates in this thread, for £36 including breakfast (and thats per room, and includes Double / Twin / Single rooms)

I think based on that a 2 day event is a definite possibility on Cost alone.

does the location of Birmingham bring anyone else into the fold?

I have contacted the HI Express in Oldbury to ask their availability for Conference rooms in June and early July.

Once we have this back we need people to give us an idea of whether they will be coming or at least attempting to make it.

As you appreciate we will be putting a lot of money in terms of a deposit on this, and if we only get 4 people we will be heavily out of pocket and thus not worth us taking a chance.

I will update this thread shortly with the available dates, and then I want people to seriously think about whether they can make it or not.

Would be nice to think people like Rob and Simon could attend, and the Brum boys, and maybe Jon Greenaway etc, maybe Andy/Andy etc.. But lets get a definite list of 3 dates so people know what they are signing up for.

Ok I have updated the first post in the topic with more detail, but to keep you up to speed.

Oldbury hotel is available on the following dates, at a price of £130 per day (which includes tea/coffee as normal).

Obviously there is a McDonalds over the road, a pub next door, and the Bar does snacks and meals at reasonable prices (including a selection of sandwiches/pasties from the fridge).

There is plenty of accom available from £36 per night in the hotel (which is the price for Double/single/Twin room, so share you can share for 18 and this will include a complimentary continental breakfast)

The estimated price for the tournament will be based on attendance (there will be trophy's as usual). This is based on 1 day, if you want two days then realistically we need more than 10 confirmed.

[*] 8 people = £20 per person
[*] 10 people = £16 per person
[*] 12 people = £14 per person
[*] 14 people = £12 per person

Therefore we need to know ASAP the following.

1) Which dates from the following can you make.
2) Will you be willing to make it a 2 day event?

Note : If this is a 1 day event it will be the SUNDAY, unless enough people wish to play one the Saturday.

Therefore reply as follows :

NAME : Mark Williams
Availability : 1 YES, 2 YES, 3 SUNDAY ONLY, 4 YES, 5 NO
2 Day Preference : Yes

Dates are :

1) 15/16th June
2) 22/23rd June
3) 29/30th June
4) 6/7th July
5) 13/14 July

Dear Mark Durban also known by Alkis as Mark Bishop, I got your email.

I am currently negotiating my exit date with my current employer but at the moment it looks very likely that I will be working in Abu Dhabi until the end of June. I have set 1st July as my target re-entry date to the UK. After this date I will be unemployed with a car and no wife, meaning I am able to attend KO2 anywhere, at any time, even on a Wednesday morning.

On this basis you had better put me down as 1) NO 2) NO 3) NO 4) YES 5) YES

I am still suffering from chronic neck pain when I sit down for long periods in front of a computer, but I have NEVER missed a UK Championships and thus I will manage for one day by consuming a cocktail of beer and steroids (rather like in Bournemouth).

There is the added bonus of seeing you all. I do consider you among my friends.

I hope that it's possible to find a date in July as I am ready to commit.
