11th KO2 WORLD CUP: BIRMINGHAM, NOVEMBER 12-13, 2011

Image

Thanks to the support for our bid, we (Ste, Si and Kobraman!) are thrilled to confirm the 2011 KOA World Cup will be held in Birmingham on 11th, 12th and 13th November at the Menzies Strathallan Hotel. :) Regardless of other WC threads that will emerge this top post will maintain all of the event's key information.

With additional help from KOA legends Robert, Durban and Camberman, and with wider forum support, we are confident that together we'll continue the rich history of fantastically memorable Kick Off World Cup experiences! After all, it's the KOA's 10th anniversary year and football's coming home....

VENUE

The venue will be the newly refurbished Menzies Stratallan Hotel (225 Hagley Road, Birmingham B16 9RY). The hotel is a mere 10 minute walk from Broad Street, probably the liveliest street in Brum for nightlife (just ask Joerg and Durban!), or a mere 1 minute walk to convenience shops, a traditional English Pub and other eateries. We'll be using the Hotel's Wallace Suite, an 180 sqm conference room with wifi, projector, and microphone facilities, which we'll have access to until 11pm each night, and there's a bar area and restaurant a few footsteps away from the conference room. As a bonus for those travelling by car, we have also negotiated FREE car parking for the entire weekend. Based on the latest number of players attending, we expect the tournament fee to be £50 per player.

ACCOMODATION

We has reserved rooms at The Strathallan (aka the KOA Hotel) at £50 per single room and £65 per double room and £75 per twin room per night including breakfast. As well as the KOA Hotel there are numerous alternative accommodation all on the same road including B&Bs from £17/night. Further information on all the options and the booking process can been found in the Accomodation thread. We'd encourage you to book directly though Steve is happy to assist you if needed.

FLIGHTS

Birmingham International Airport (BHX) is less than 30 minute drive from the hotel. All the airlines below fly from BHX and for more information on low cost flight options:

* Air France
* Air Malta
* Balkan Holidays
* bmibaby
* bmi regional
* Brussels Airlines

* City Airline
* Continental Airlines

Although tranfers from the airport to the city centre are available by train, bus or taxi, we'd recommend using a firm specialising in airport runs. Whereas notorious Black Cabs would charge £50 or more, we've negoitated a price with this firm in the region of £25 for 4 people (i.e £6.25 per person). Further details and how to select this option will be included in the registration site (coming soon). If demand is there we can also easily arrange your return trip to the airport.

TOURNAMENT SETTINGS

We respect everybody's preferences and as with the Athens 2008 World Cup we will be holding two separate votes, one for autoslides and one for trapslides, each decided by a simple majority. We will provide full details in due course and plan to conclude this vote no later than two months prior to the World Cup. Irrespective of the vote's outcome, pairs of players who agree are free to deviate from the consensus via the easy to use APT menu. So, for example, if slides are voted in, two players who agree can still play their match slidefree. Likewise two players who prefer to play with slides are still able to do so even if the votes produce a slidefree outcome. With previous votes virtually split down the middle, this will ensure maximum flexibility.

The vote is now complete. Further details of the result can be found in the 'Settings Vote Results' thread.

All other standard tournament settings will apply (A=B, Team A v Team B at International Skill Level, 2 x 5mins, No Wind, No Line-up changes, Random Referees etc)

Unapproved by Sony. I can't get to see the Youtube-clip due to some restrictions from them.

Stupid Sony won't let me watch the video.

Here's some piece of advice (the first of many to follow :) ):

-Always use the first post of this topic as the main place to display information, updates, changes etc. It will be easier for people who do not visit the forum frequently to keep up.

-Use a proper registration web site like we did in 2006 and 2008. It's the best way of keeping all vital information (full names, e-mail addresses, phone numbers etc.) neatly organized. The page is still there so just ask durban and he'll set it up for you.

Done and stated above.

Done and Durban is already kindly looking into this.

Neverthesless appreciate your advice, Alkis. As we've discussed we'll be seeking pointers from the experienced hands. :)

Stupid Sony here, too :(

Don´t know if it´s possible? If it is only because of the soundtrack, you can take it from another source maybe, which is also available in norway,greek and germany.
Or can the countries outside the british empire get a stream without Sony contend?
Otherway take your guitar Steve :)

Looking forward to see the video 8)
