Its that Time of the Year Again - SAVE THE KOA with money!!!

Postby durban » Tue Sep 22, 2009 11:21 am

Dear all,

Each year I put this reminder out (although you can of course donate all year around by clicking on the paypal link on the main koa page) to ask for help with hosting and registration costs for running the KOA.

Every year the same 6 or 7 people give money (and usually quite a bit) but I would prefer to see less money paid by more people.

So please help, go to http://www.ko-gathering.com and click on the paypal link to make your donation!

The past couples of years I have been asked to provide 'running' costs for info - So here you go.

Bandwidth : Approx 12.5Gb per month :
Disk Space : Approx 850mb
SQL Databases : 4
SQL / Site Backups : 3 x daily (and sent to secondary host 2x per week)
SQL Size : Approx 12.5mb

Based on this you would be looking at paying approx £5.99 per month for the Space/Bandwidth

Another £5 on top to cover the SQL databases and offsite backups.

This obviously doesn't include any 'extra' work that Nikos or myself undertake (upgrades, deletion/amendment of accounts, clearups/pruning, Manual secures/updates to security) but I wouldn't want to charge for this as other people give a lot more to the KOA.

The cost of the server is approx £28 per calendar month, and the KOA takes up approx 40% of the space/bandwidth of this server so the prices above are quite good valuations.

Thus taking them into consideration we are looking at approx £11 per month to keep the KOA running on the servers alone, which equates to approx £132 per year.

If anyone wants any further details I would be happy to provide this (don't forget on World Cup and UK Champs months, not to mention when Sid and James Beard start posting their Girls, the Bandwidth goes thru the roof due to uploads of Videos etc!)

Thanks for any donations, every penny and cent is appreciated.....and of course this year you can always call it a 'Wedding' Present!

I would be more than happy to contribute, but is there no other payment-options? Moneybookers, for instance?

Potentially adding a few more ways to donate funds, in purpose to run the forum, would likely help reaching the target "less money paid by more people".

I can certainly look into it, to be honest it was always just Paypal because thats well known, simple and people don't need an account.

I will look into money bookers and any other options people think will be useful.

Obviously I don't want to set up a payment system for just one person if I can help it, but popular ones are certainly a good idea.

No forum, no KOA. Mark and Nikos.

Btw in making my donation I couldn't help noticing the 'greek' welcome has gone a bit funny ?

I was wondering the same thing...
Perhaps I've got a good solution: Can I give you the money in Voitsberg?

Pay Pal now allow you to send money direct from a cred/deb card (without an actual paypal account)

the only downside with the other systems here is that I get charged around 8% for withdrawing my money, so If I am sent 100 euros I lose 10(ish) which is a bit steep.

Pay Pal on the other hand I get all the money!

Torchi, a beer in Austria is always and acceptable form of payment :)

Unfortunately at the moment we have only had 3 contributions this year (each of which are very much appreciated I have to add!)

Sorry in actual fact there have been 6 payments, which are all appreciated of course including 2 people who don't even post on the KOA any more (or at least apart from once a year to say hi!)
