World Cup - The FRIDAY NIGHT topic

Postby Robert » Wed Oct 25, 2006 7:53 pm

Sorry to start another topic but I am keen for everything to go well on Friday night.

The plan is that people check into the hotel, come to the barn any time from 6.00pm (hopefully we will have some tables and Amigas set up) and then we do the draw at 8.00. Then we all go together to the restaurant (next to the hotel) for food. This is the one time that we will be eating as a group... the Saturday night we'll have to split up into smaller groups because 60 is a bit intimidating for the local restaurants.

So....

I have booked 40 places at 9pm for the restaurant. I am a little concerned about this number because it's not a massive restaurant. If we turn up with 50, 10 people will have nowhere to sit. If we turn up with 30, they will be really pissed off with me.

Below is a list of the suspects for the 40-man eat at the restaurant.

If you DONT see your name in the list, but want to join us, please post.
If you DO see your name in the list, but won't be here by 9pm, please post.
If you are in the UNKNOWNS section please make your intentions clear... to eat or not to eat? That is the question.

Otherwise, I'll work on the basis of the number below... and will confirm numbers with the restaurant tomorrow afternoon.

Food on Friday night

DEFINITES (30)

1 Nikos A
2 Alkis P
3 Martin Beard
4 James Beard
5 Mrs Beard
6 Jacob
7 Simon Butt
8 James Butt
9 Steve C
10 Wendydoll
11 Mark E
12 Martin J
13 Michael Mü
14 Spyros
15 Mrs Spyros
16 Mrs Spyros's sister
17 Alex B
18 John Rees
19 Robert
20 Thowra
21 Sascha
22 Thomas N
23 Glenn
24 Klaus
25 Rodolfo
26 John H
27 Stefan V
28 Thomas K
29 Haakon
30 Waynie
31 Mark B

UNKNOWNS (9) Either I don't know your arrival time or you haven't booked accommodation....

Ben C
Dan C
Tarkan D
Michael O
Claus H
Nick P
Henrik R

Can you unknowns (or anyone that knows what they are doing?) please post whether you are arriving in time for dinner and want to join us?

Also, I don't want anyone walking from the barn to the restaurant. This will not be pleasant. As a result we'll need eaters/5 cars at the barn.

Car list: (37)

Waynie (5)
Steve C (5)
Robert S (5)
James B (5)
Mark E (5)
Sascha (5)
Mark B (5)
Simon B (2) he's got a TT

Finally, please be aware that the Long Island Bar/Grill turns into a nightclub after 11pm and - funnily enough - is the only place in Rickmansworth that you can buy a drink until 1am. By eating there we 'get in' for free. Therefore I don't suggest that we 'go to the pub' after eating. We are in 'the pub'.

John, generally the stuff I am organising, whether it's food, accommodation, entertainments.... I'm not promising you the World but it's certainly the best value of a rather limited choice round here. Our alternative was Central London and a cost structure that was prohibitive for most. On that basis I wouldn't advise being choosy ;-)

Just as a heads up.. I'll probably be arriving at the barn at 8.55pm, pissed off with missing the draw, knackered after a long drive on the M1, with a car packed to the limit with hardware, and keen to check into the hotel.

OK that's alright Steve, we'll try to make things work.

If you park your car in the hotel car park (which is safe), check-in should take 5 mins and the restaurant is right next door.

Please ensure that your travel plans take into account the awful amount of time taken to negotiate those roadworks from Luton to the M25. At least you'll be moving against the traffic, what with heading into the Southeast of England.

Excellent. Sascha has also vouched for the attendance of Thomas K and Stefan V on Friday night.

okay, i've managed to get my plane ticket changed and have just arrived in uk. i didnt want to miss the WC draw (plus, the brown stuff hit the fan at work, so my company insisted on flying me back a couple of days earlier! ).

i will aim to arrive at the barn ~1900...coming straight from work in st albans. this means that i can offer another 4 spaces in my car for the transit from the barn to the hotel, and that i am around for food (assuming i have overcome my jetlag by then). :)

i know i was not on either list, and wasnt supposed to roll up till saturday morning. hope this is okay. :D

I'll be at the Barn from 6ish, although I need to get Mr. Haakon & his bag etc. booked into our Hotel Room, which will probably involve picking him up from the main KOA Hotel first, bfore then coming over. Play it by ear I guess.
